“To be human is to live by sunlight and moonlight, with anxiety and delight, admitting to limits and transcending them, falling down and rising up. To want a life with only half these things in it is to want half a life.”
—Barbara Brown Taylor, Learning to Walk in the Dark
Advent is a season of looking forward to the new light of Christ, but as Barbara Brown Taylor says, we’d be missing out on half the story if we didn’t also find grace and wonder in the midst of shadows.
Each week you’ll use scripture, song, prayer, and practice to prepare yourself for the birth of the Christ child, finding what is holy in the spectrum from shadow to light.
This resource was created in collaboration with Elsa Cook of cookingwithelsa.org.
Each week has seven (or more!) images to use on social media or send out via email or text.
Resources for children include three options this year - all with the same content. Choose the option that works best for your families, or give different options to different ages.
Choose between: a printable Advent calendar, image flip book, or paper chain with daily activities.
Items may be purchased individually or together as a bundle.
A printable booklet guides you through the season with scripture, song, prayer and practice. Most days also have a question for reflection as well.

Post the daily image to your social media account and use the question for reflection to drive engagement. Each week the images transition from shadow to light throughout the week.
There are three extra options for children: a printable Advent calendar, an image flip book, and a paper chain with daily prompts.
